This Edgy Kitchen Hadn’t Been Renovated Since The ’80s!

Get inspired by this inviting kitchen with graphic soapstone countertops. Designer Ines Mazzotta of Kelly Hopter Interiors renovated the space in just six weeks using a black and white palette and wood accents for warmth (think: a stunning Indonesian rosewood armoire from Kijiji). See how glazed white tile gives an airy, hand-made touch to the vent hood, and a galvanized iron pendant adds a hit of metallic shimmer. The pièce de résistance is an apron-front soapstone sink with subtle veining.

I like when a kitchen doesn’t read kitchen

  9. Gamze on January 12, 2021 at 12:53 am

It is beautiful! How are the black countertop and cupboards working from a dust and stain perspective? I have black marble in my bathroom countertop and it is a nightmare. Water stains and dust need cleaning everyday.

  10. eatplaydecorate on January 12, 2021 at 12:55 am

Finally a sink that’s not sticking out like a bad diy project.

Beautiful! Can anyone tell me if soapstone needs to be sealed regularly? I would imagine if it develops a patina, any sealant would ruin the patina. We have concrete counter tops and I adore the imperfections, the "stains" from vinegar and wine, and such, but my husband isn’t as fond of this look. The dark natural soapstone is my choice for our remodel, but he needs to be convinced. He is under the impression it is quite porous and will damage easily. I have heard/read the opposite. Thanks for any input!

    Gorgeous

Ines Mazzotta is a very good looking woman. She could be Scandinavian despite the name (?) Her kitchen design is slightly industrial, so tasteful and as we hear very functional. Compliments from Germany.

  17. 3lqqA ApplE on January 12, 2021 at 1:00 am

Did she just say that it was done 2 years ago? Or just the design? It sure does look timeless if it was.

    Cool

The best designers and architects always go back to a project and learn what went as planned and what did not. I see she is trying to balance that armoire with the Old World framed pic, but how practical is that really? Mine would be splashed up and greasy every day. Not a good "back splash". Otherwise, wonderful work! Black looks great, but I would want to be able to see if it is dirty or not.

  20. Cher Siegel on January 12, 2021 at 1:04 am

Beautifully executed. Love the leather pulls the backsplash and range hood. Love the brass with the dark cabinets. Only change I’d make is to continue the hardwood to the back door without breaking it up visually with the tile. Otherwise well done!

I love this for some reason ??? I would probably add some of my own taste and ruin the look but it’s calming and peaceful

  22. Djawn Sjhilson on January 12, 2021 at 1:07 am

It has some of elements of the hgtv 2019 smart home (which i loved)! It was moody but also classic. The kitchen and the dining room especially! I loved the dining room!

I think the vent hood having more color in this kitchen would be a great addition, but it sure is great as it is!

  23. Justin on January 12, 2021 at 1:07 am

I like this design. It’s modern and yet looks like it’s been there forever.

  24. PM N on January 12, 2021 at 1:08 am

Beautifully done, I like that’s it’s not the monochromatic contemporary that you see, and getting so tired of, everywhere today.

  25. Faith on January 12, 2021 at 1:10 am

Gorgeous kitchen. Cheers to the designer 🙂

  26. Sophie N on January 12, 2021 at 1:12 am

This is one of the most beautiful, soulful kitchens I’ve ever seen!

  27. rneustel on January 12, 2021 at 1:12 am

This kitchen is drop-jaw gorgeous, but I wouldn’t expect anything less from this designer. She creates such stunning spaces! I really love the black window interiors.

  28. dorfone on January 12, 2021 at 1:14 am

Too much white and I guess those uncomfortable island chairs are there to discourage company from staying too long. Otherwise, not bad looking.

  29. fashionforwarddd on January 12, 2021 at 1:16 am

    Loveeee this kitchen!

    تصميم جميل وتنسيق أجمل ولكن
إظهار المصمم في كل حين يقلل من متعة المشاهدة والتشويق

  38. Lotfi Bouhedjeur on January 12, 2021 at 1:30 am

No mention of the amazing light fixture!? It adds tons of character and elegance to the space.
