— Some tid bits about us —

In this video, we discuss moving to Hawaii on a Minimalist Budget. As many of you know, we are full-time YouTubers and make our money entirely on online. We have become experts at living in Hawaii on an affordable budget, only $500 month. The cost of living in Hawaii is very high, so it’s taking some serious maneuvering to make this work. Living in Hawaii is well worth all of the cost of living sacrifices though, I assure you 🙂 moving to Hawaii has been an incredible experience.

Chad & Zaynah have been doing #BusLife since August 6th, 2017 and it has been by far the most rewarding experience of their life. Initially the adventure took them all over the west coast, living full-time out of their bus conversion. After a few months living on the road in their skoolie conversion, they decided to return home to Colorado and begin travelling the Rocky Mountains. Multiple issues arised when trying to access free BLM land to park and live off of in Colorado because of the road access to these locations. Because of this, they started thinking critically about downsizing to a van to continue their travels across the country.

But instead of downsizing to van life, they decided to go after their biggest life dream – moving to Hawaii and living out of a bus while homesteading on the land, beginning a family, and enjoying the adventures that come when living on a tropical island in the middle of the pacific. For the past month or so, they have been living off the grid, living off the land in this beautiful climate. Everyday they get a little closer to creating the tiny house of their dreams our of a converted bus.Tiny living may not be for everyone, but Chad & Zaynah honestly can’t imagine living any other way. This lifestyle, turning a driving vessel into a bus house, has been the most rewarding yet.

Less is always more when you begin living tiny. Thank you for watching OUR journey, drop a line down below in the comments section so we can get to know you better 🙂

So you guys park at the farm you work at ? I’m just wondering because i was wondering alternative nightly parking spots. Hear in San Diego it’s not so easy must be private property

  2. Landin Gentry on October 9, 2021 at 8:36 am

How’s it been finding places to park on the island? Do you mainly stay upcountry?

  3. kakelinga on October 9, 2021 at 8:37 am

The state does not like people living in their vans or cars in Hawaii. We have tons of homeless people literally living on the streets in Hawaii. We also don’t have places that you can legally park vehicles on any island. You both should move to Las Vegas. Don’t get any ideas that life in a van in Hawaii is romantic or an adventure. It’s really frowned upon here. The locals hate mainland transplants that are homeless.

  4. sam oleary on October 9, 2021 at 8:38 am

Hey which company did you guys go through to be able to keep your belongings in the van while being shipped? I’m about to do something similar, thanks in advance

I lived in kihei for 10 pretty much rent free, till the time came that I had to look for a spot of my own …. $1500 for a room! Fuck that! I sold my 1960 station wagon bought a 2017 nv2500 , added 400w solar, mini fridge, 32in tv, xbox, 15gal. Shower, my old sound system from my wagon (JL audio) …. yeah. This is the life, there’s a sense of freedom, like a weight is off your shoulders…. should’ve done this along time ago.

I haven’t been to Hawaii in over 20 years. I would love the chance to live there. You can get that Adobe bill down to $0.00 by becoming a Linux user. Look into Fedora Design Suite.

  15. naldovaz on October 9, 2021 at 8:52 am

I am not buying it.. not on Oahu… Where are you gonna park?? All the homeless and drugs are all over… We talking meth community ok.. keeping clean will be a problem… And in your lifestyle all hippie… You gonna attrack the criminals.. get beat up and robbed… Eyeballs going be on your woman… Your just a hippie and not gonna last… And Hawaii law enforcement is stopping and arresting vehicle living… They get you at night when you’re sleeping because parking everywhere is against the law… Can’t park at no beach overnight… No residential area… No city park. Police are everywhere on Oahu and they know all the spots…

  16. Villan Aven on October 9, 2021 at 8:55 am

You Zana are so beautiful, you guys ROCK !!! I’m also trying to move into being a minimalist… I spend way too much, want to move to Hawaii also

  32. Aloha on October 9, 2021 at 9:07 am

Its illegal to sleep in a vehicle in Hawai’i. That includes but is not limited to vans, campers, RVs, cars, mobile homes (which there are none of in Hawai’i for that exact reason) and tiny homes built on trailer beds (theyre considered a mobile home). Please dont promote breaking the law here, it was created for a reason. It may not be what you want, but its whats best for locals.
You also cant sleep in parks or at beaches unless theyre designated camp grounds AND youve previously purchased a permit through the state. Theres only a limited amount of spots available per site.

  33. Sarah Cooper on October 9, 2021 at 9:08 am

  38. Wyatt Kirchner on October 9, 2021 at 9:14 am

is it easy to find a place to park? I’ve heard it’s illegal to sleep in a vehicle there do the police harass you two frequently? Overall is it pretty easy to do it without getting in trouble with the law or not

  39. Sarah Guin on October 9, 2021 at 9:15 am

Wow crazy food price’s. I thought my groceries cost a lot. 😬

  40. Shushu Can on October 9, 2021 at 9:15 am

I totally support your decision to live minimally. On the other hand I disagree with your decision to accept monetary donations to help with your choice. It’s your lifestyle choice, you make the money yourself. My family has been here from the 1800’s, this is my home and I work damn hard with no handouts to live here. I don’t support the idea that you can come here to our home and live at ease with the help of other people’s moneys while we work our asses off just to stay in our own home. In my opinion if you aren’t born here but wanna live here you better earn to live here.

  41. max kiani on October 9, 2021 at 9:16 am

Do they let you sleep in the van in Hawaii?

  42. Billy Seward on October 9, 2021 at 9:16 am

  43. Didymostruespeak on October 9, 2021 at 9:17 am

Hey guys I live there on the cheap for 3 years. Learn to skin diving get your own fish. Learn to harvest papayas from papaya trees in the forest and jungle… Fifty bucks buys a Coleman porta potty. Definitely worth the money 👌 my brother is still there and he hires people randomly to help him mow lawns… He lives in waialua. He’s in the North shore newspaper as the North shore lawn ranger. It’s such tough work .
that I wouldn’t do it more than two days a week if you want it . Good luck

  44. Lisa R on October 9, 2021 at 9:17 am

Some vegetables grow well in containers. A well lit, well ventilated van dwelling van is basically a drivable greenhouse. Have you explored the possibility of a small nomadic garden? My grandfather grew the sweetest corn in a 12’ by 24’ west facing plot on the side of his house.

  45. Michael Kleist on October 9, 2021 at 9:19 am

I call BS.. COME TO BI EVERY WINTER, BEEN IN KONA FOR 3 WEEKS .. VAN LIFE THE FIRST THING YA DO IS RENEW YOUR COSCO CARD $60 .. TO EAT PROPERLY IT COST $15 DAY … DO THE MATH!

  46. Marla Jacques on October 9, 2021 at 9:20 am

Subscribed, totally on the same page as you guys right now and I love your can do attitude! So many people get triggered when I talk about this stuff, I just continue to plot and scheme 🤫😎
