Van Life in Texas Heat… Back on the Road! #vanlife
I hit the road again in the Element camper. Despite the extreme heat and high temperatures, this trip to Texas was a great one!

Tim Reynolds lives (or lived) in Santa Fe, NM. He did some acoustic shows when I lived there. I donβt know if he is still there.
70’S AT NIGHT IN TEXAS???? HA!! NOPE,, 85 86
Should have put the clear film on the front for heat rejection π€
Fun trip, I like it.
Can you create a vanlife meet up or something on Texas so I have a reason to join. I’m in Plano with my campervan and like vanlife is so dead out here!
Hey dude, got an element myself that I’ve outfitted for camping — What fan are you using here? Would you recommend it?
I own a Honda Element because of you Nate #influencer
Thanks for giving the Pecron a good run. They seem like a nice affordable up and come-er in the solar power station market and I hope they get more attention and spur more innovation in their competitors.
If you had window covers that just look like window covers, people will likely just assume itβs to keep the sun off the cab. By virtue of it being a Honda Element and not a van or, alternatively, some trashy vehicle falling apart, in most cases where people have no reason to care or βsuspectβ, no one is looking that hard. Sometimes in trying too hard to be stealth we think about it like 3 times harder then people walking past living their day ever will.
Played a hotdeal yesterday in sun city….shot a 79. San Diego next week….camping of course! Timmy C Arizona
Awesome song Nateπ
God Bless Texas! Dave Mathews Band YES!
Welcome to Austin glad you enjoyed your time here. I was born and raised in San Antonio. Yup it’s been hot as heck here with cool nights. Glad you enjoyed your trip. Instead of covering the side windows put a curtain behind the seats maybe it won’t be so obvious.
Since you’re in Texas… Don’t get killed. Then again, not a child, less likely to get shot I guess.
What a great trip that you had and the element what a perfect vehicle to take on a little trip like that. You definitely have it set up nice. Great video looking forward to the next one you guys be safe.
You saw Dave!?! He usually lives where I live… Super nice guy!
Big like π. Very enjoyable π video πΉ.
Just saw him in Atlanta last weekend. First time in 23 years! Awesome show!!
Texas heat is extreme!! Glad you got to play golf, but 105Β°, wow! Great video! So glad it all worked well for you!>Sue
Much deserved R&R, awesome road trip. Totally MISSED the Element car camping adventures. checked off the list. Yeah!
If you’re not used to a lot of pollen. It could have been the pollen in Texas cuz it’s been extra bad in Texas this year!
Hi nate, i am aspiring to create you tube videos and i am interested to know how picture in picture is done here, ie where u display 2 screens. One screen shows u talking and d other show dashcam images. I think you can one day do a tutorial video showing how u take shots, tips, how to make videos in general, equipt u use, etc. that would b nice to us beginners. Thank u
Nice to see you on the road again in an Element. It looked to be a good trip despite the heat. Maybe a curtain behind the front seats would make the car look a little more stealth rather than window curtains. Thanks for sharing your Texas tour. ππ
You MPG gauge indicated much higher than Iβve seen anyone ever claim. How are you getting that high an MPG?
We cancelled our trip to Abilene State Park because it’s 102F there and only 88F in east Texas. Also, the state park has a burn ban and I was looking forward to a campfire. I was surprised at the big temperature difference being only about 250 miles apart.
I choose to only take the backroads. I don’t like driving on Interstates for various reasons. I went from Indiana to Idaho and back using only state roads. It allows one to see all the small towns across our huge country. You do have to take into account the distance between gas stations, though. Thankfully, almost every small town has at least one station. You should definitely top up every chance you get when you’re in states as vast and deserted as Texas and Nevada.
Awesome job on the video!
Stay safe bro! My country has recently issued a warning that travel in U.S. can be " dangerous" first time I ever saw this. Take care a thanks for content π
Insane how long I been following you Nate and how far you have come. Safe travels as always

Nice little trip! β€οΈπ
Itβs Necessary for Nate to take these Solo Trips to Avoid Cabin/Tiny House Fever. Also, Living the Temporary βSingleβ Life is also a Plus.
Are you heading to Florida again this winter?
I find your video’s are more interesting since you left Florida…..
& You actually looked scared when Shannon was describing the Plans for your Property….
It looked like you were wondering what you got yourself into…. Cuz you’re a Nomad at Heart…
Reminds me of the good ol days π
What a great getaway!! Friends, DMB and Golf!!
my grandma lives in texico and we live in clovis. you spent the night in sudan or muleshoe. i can tell by the scenery.
mcdonalds has human meat…
New sub ! Liked π²π€©ππ
So happy to see you traveling in the Element have fun safe travels.
At night with a interior light on, the limo glass is reversed and people can see in as clear as you can see out during the day.
I’ve been following your journey since the very beginning, just a few videos in, and yours was one of the first vanlife channels I subbed to when I became interested in it. You were also who inspired me to consider van alternatives. I hope to hit the open road soon and eventually save enough to also go off-grid the way you and Shannon have. All my best to you both
Suggestion- from when I slept in my Prius. I blocked the back windows with regular window covers, but the front windows I used a black curtain and a bungee cord attached to the OMG handles. Then the curtain (ie black sheet hemmed to allow the bungee cord to slide through. Would drape over the back of the front seats. This left the back completely covered and allowed for the front to be more βnormalβ.
Having the fan directly on your face will cause the most likely the problem with your nose.
I’m still enjoying your videos, guys! In the meantime, have a cool Memorial Day and a start of a great Summer!π€ππππStay cool!π§
I really enjoy your singing!
I kind of surprised myself, I knew whose concert you were going to see & the second I saw the fence behind you in the Element when you woke up, I recognized where you were. So nice to see you on the road, glad you got to see your friends. β
100+ West-Texas heat living in car sounds unbearableeeeee
