How Did We Get Here?
Abandoning our Van in Africa https://bit.ly/2Kff0HT
After an incredible 3 years of living, working, and traveling in our self converted Sprinter Van we made the very tough decision to abandon it in Africa to take a rescue flight back to Canada. As it has for all of us this global pandemic has flipped our world upside down. When our Prime Minister announced that he was sending repatriation flights over to Africa to pick up Canadians who were stuck (due to border closures) we consulted with friends and family closest to us and realized that in this time of crisis we should be back in our home country. Halting our dream of driving around the world was a hard pill to swallow which is why we knew we needed a big project to keep our mind + body busy while social distancing back here in Toronto. Enter building an off-grid tiny house on wheels!! This is going to be our 3rd time converting an empty cargo van into a campervan and we are both excited and nervous to take on this project. We want this build to be the ULTIMATE OFF-GRID VAN 🚐

So what was the actual cable size problem ? What size was you originally using ? It looked heavy stuff on the first attempt ? Any details ?
Eamon was right to check the wire sizes !!!! There was another remedy, which I am using for our system, inspired by you guys in general if not specifically. If the electrical system were configured at 24V instead of 12V, you could have used half the size of wire. Most things in a van can run at 24V and if you need 12V or any other voltage, then a voltage converter is an adaptation for various other loads at any other voltage. For instance, inverters, fridges, compressors and other heavier loads will run at 24V. This is efficient and saves wire. The way to set up a 24V battery bank in this case is to run not all six Battleborn units in parallel, but to link two parallel groups of three in series. This cuts the amps in half and doubles the voltage. Performance would be the same, if not improved. It also matches the higher voltage produced by a massive bank of solar panels, given the solar controller you have. Anyway, loved the adventure, as usual!
For extra protection they could’ve cover the exposed knotts and bolts from the battery with liquid plastic.
Hey guys. Your equipment list in the description doesn’t have the solar panels in it. What do you have? And the amazing battery set up too, please! Thanks.
I’m amazed you guys all know each other. I watch Trent and Allie, which lead me to you and then I saw a greeting from Kara and Nate. Your van looks amazing. I haven’t gotten to your cabin build, although I see you have moved to this new project. So much energy!
Eeerrrrh 🙁 girls like electricity too what’s with those buttlike paintings
Disappointed in the mildly sexist comment.
10 times more disappointed it wasn’t addressed in the comments after so many people were clearly bothered by it.
Accountability is so important as influencers…
Hey might of missed it but what b2b charger did you go with?? Thanks
it’s called a BUS BAR+/-
enjoyed the whole video. specially 0:16
I love the old man in the chair!! ❤️ he’s adorable and seems super sweet
I think I’ve got you beat , my rig is very small 26 square feet with a 24 volt system , running a 24 volt freezer ( drawing only 1.5 amps ) a 24 to 12 volt converter a 250 , and 2500 watt inverters I also have 680 watts of solar .
I built mine so I can run saws , drills , misc. carpenter tools . Etc. I prefer a 24 over 12 volt system for several reasons .
6 thousand bucks in battery’s and 6 thousand bucks in equipment and erics donated time
AND I LOVE ERIK!!😩😩😭❤️
You Got Power ! It’s great to have friends !
How much was the cost of everything in total the van and everything you did to it?
anyone know how much power this is?
Only I would notice that I have the same sticky notes as bob 😂 if he finds a little forklift to drive them around let me know haha
I am working at a university and we’re not quarantine at all
Hey quick suggestion if you have room around your piping you could use foam like a pool noodle ish. To help with temperature and condensation around your pex
ok been watching the van folks, but nice to see how they really are all friends, love it!
Lol, I heard toner and thought of the movie pitch perfect. Musical boner 😂
Looks like Eric really helped you out!!
His email doesnt seem to be in the description below and Im sure he would really appreciate it. 🙂
What solar panels did you use??
Butter cookies for Trent!!!!!
How many watts of solar ?
Omg you guys know Trent and Allie!!! I love their channel!! How cool 2 of my favorite channels!
Just found this channel! Literally binged 3 hours lol
Love your van that’s how I want my van to look when I’m older
Oh boy, you spent money, and tied some batteries together…
The Nobel committee should be calling any day now.
Hey guys, love watching you video’s. Would you help me with some info on your Solar panels. What make are they? So I can find them here in the UK 🇬🇧 Thank you for any help. Please keep traveling
I’m new to your channel … went from a video from 2 years ago to 2 weeks ago I think. Anyway, congrats on the light ( Eric 👍👍 shout out ).
You guys are amazing. New Sub ‼️
Just a FYI, the "hard" heat shrink is called Raycam. Just be careful if you’re using it, it has a hot glue on the inside that melts and helps adhere to the surface. 👍
Bob: How are ya?
Eamon: Not good.
Bob: You got Covid?
Awesome. Bob is the best.
Can I ask why Victron over Renogy and did you need the 5000 Watt or do you think a 3000 watt would have worked as well. I am just about to install a similar setup but only went with the 3000 Watt. I’m considering Renogy because of the lower price in Canada ($1000 difference)
OMG You are friends with TRENT??? I’ve watched Trent & Allie like forever dude!! Love BOTH your channels. THATS SO COOL💕💕💕💕💕
No new vid. So this was REUPLOADED?
What kind of alternator do you have? 🙂 (brand/Amp/..)
Soooooo are you going to give us your playlist, or nah? 👀
Alright. When I start my van build, Ill call Erick up!
I’m only the next city, (well, two) over. 😀
Ill have to put him in my vlogs
Sofia stole the show!
It was so exciting to watch the lights come on! Loved seeing Trent on the video.
This week’s ep. was so good I just watched it through TWICE and it still made me laugh out loud again 😂 I love Bob, I love Eamon’s dancing, I love Bec being a #badass errand gal, I LOVED the music and the transitions (so good guys, honestly), and I loved that no matter how frustrating everything got, you guys stayed positive! Such an inspiration. Keep it up, already can’t wait for next week!!!!!! 😍
What happend to trinity
No snoozin’ here!
In fact, I wouldn’t have minded seeing MORE electrical. I plan to do some for my RV. Biggest challenge in my build will probably be how others view what I’m capable of because I’m a girl and what they’re willing to teach me. So I often go to YouTube to learn. Kinda disappointing seeing the stereotypes here too.
Huge fan of you guys, but not a fan of that remark, and I hope the mistake is recognized 🙂
Our van is outside awaiting the build out right now!!!😀so inspiring much love Tim and Sheryl
I love Bob so much. He’s super sweet & funny. So cute how he asks at the start if he’s screwed something up. Love you Buddy 🥰
Are you a Model or a x model if not you should be one now ! ! ! !
I wish I had help with my rv, I have no power😣
Hey guys – which B2B charger did you go with at 4:18? Thx!
