Van STORAGE ideas & organization HACKS | Full-time minimalistic living
Living in a tiny space can be harsh on storage (especially when you DON’T have a fixed bed) but is totally manageable. We’ve been living full time in our campervan and went through 4 seasons, going from freezing mornings to boiling evenings. We go to the grocery store once a week, have plenty of clothes to last 7 days and can store paddleboards and wetsuits in our tiny Promaster 136’’.

WHO WE ARE? WHAT’S WITH OUR ACCENT?
We’re Dom & Marie, a French Canadian couple who love Nutella and live in a van. Marie is the brain (Ph.D student) and Dom’s the dreamer (Creative director).
In our newly converted Promaster 136” named Vanessa, we plan to visit every single corner of North America. Our goal is to inspire others to start #vanlife and to help build their very own home on wheels.

Overhead cabinets: make dividers out of 1/4 inch ply. It will keep your clothes (and kitchen items) from moving around

Hardly Know Fact: All detergents work by softening the water and separating dirt form objects and holding that dirt in suspension until removed. The process uses an electrical charge like a magnet. Dish-wash type detergents ( foaming Ones) use the opposite electrical charge to laundry detergents ( Suds Ones). The two detergents cancel each other out if mixed. So – you cannot put a bit of dishwash detergent in with the laundry detergent and nor can you put a block of hand soap in with dishwash liquid…

That’s OK Dom, we understand. We Americans can’t pronounce your ‘Rs’. My Swedish grandparents couldn’t pronounce the ‘J’ sound, so they said things like yinyerale, yingle bells, and yiminy cricket. lol

Buy those "space bags" that you can put a lot of clothes in and use a vacuum cleaner hose to suction out all of the air to collapse them down. They save enormous amount of space allowing you to bring along a lot of clothes.

Have you ever tried talcum powder for your hair? You know the same one which is put to babys butt to remove the moist. Hands down the best dry shampoo (for blonde hair) I’ve ever tried and much more ecological than a regular dry shampoo. People also use backing soda and potato flour to do the same job. I haven’t tried these but talcum is definitely worth a try! 😊

First clue on the difference between dish and laundry soap…: on the boxes one says “Dish Soap” and the other one says “Laundry soap”. Aussi subtile que ça, chu d’même.

A trick for organizing your clothes: you can roll up your t-shirts (and other clothes) – they will take up less space this way in the cabinet, and it is much easier to take a t-shirt from the cabinet, from the middle of the pile, without ruining the whole pile.
