VanChat Tuesday – Watch this before going Fulltime Vanlife

We are seeing an increase in people wanting a honest appraisal of what going full time vanlife means, in both good and bad situations. So we’ve put together a few clips detailing our vanlife experiences over the past few years as weekend warriors and as nearly 1 year living full time in our motorhome.

J&M oh and Coop, it’s so refreshing to hear you telling Vanlife as it is. Can’t wait for you to be able to go somewhere hot and sunny 😎. Also looking forward to meeting up, eventually, next year. X

great video and some very important points you made, I have a question. I am relocating back to the UK in November and I am seriously thinking of vanlife as a option, not including the van what sort of budget for the first year on the road should you consider while you sort out your income streams?

    Hi John and Mandy.
    Brilliant vlog.
I haven’t got a mortgage anymore, but don’t have the balls to live your way of life, believe me thought of it. I know good and bad times but that’s every day life anyway.
As far as paying taxes goes you are still paying into the economy, fuel, shopping and sites you use.
Think councils have had lots of trouble with a certain groups of people that live in caravans with the mess and crime that comes with them. (Trying to be diplomatic here). That they lump you all in the same box, what’s your thoughts on that.
Lovely vlogs. Great way of life.
    Stay safe.
    Pete and Su.

Thank you for a refreshing and honest video. It has now changed my mind. Both my partner and I could be losing our rented home. We both work. My partner works at an optician’s and I’m a self employed stoneage living educator. So it looks like we’ll have to stay fairly close to her work until I start making good money. Luckily thete are sights and places nearby we can park and stay.

Do you ever worry that you’d roll away if our handbrake failed?

  8. vince zielinski on September 13, 2021 at 11:23 pm

Hi . We recently spent 3 weeks touring Devon and Cornwall . Many car parks , even free ones , have added further restrictions banning Motorhomes and Campervans parking from 11pm -8am . We were told it was due to the large influx of such vehicles this year . I predict that as more and more people go full time it will lead to many new rules and restrictions being imposed by the powers that be .

Good vid, several months into living in my motor home, got some new van mates I’ve met through the van, don’t travel much work full time at same location, financially I’m winning , spent my divorce money on my van, no rent,no mortgage, yeah takes some getting used living in a van, lots of feeling lost days at the start…

Just watched this, best guidance I’ve seen so far, I have so many questions before making the big decision of going full time next year!

  12. Steven Lucas on September 13, 2021 at 11:35 pm

Our van is 3 weeks away from being our full-time possesion (There’s a 3 week wait to get through the various checks that dealers want to do, down in the West Country at least). Two to three more weeks of emptying the house and handing it back to the landlord then we too will be joining the van life. Looking forward to it! Hope we’ll meet you on the road sometime.

  13. Jacks_Vanlife on September 13, 2021 at 11:35 pm

Great video guys and great insight. It’s not for everyone and the important thing to remember also is everyone’s situation is different and I think you cover this well. Full time vanlife can be suitable for so many people in different stages in their lives/situations but you need to know and be able to accept the sacrifices you have to make. And yes Wet/muddy dog is a problem in a house so it is amplified in a van!… We’ve already found it an issue as weekend warriors and we don’t even have a water/mud loving dog.

Really good video and helping me make the leap! For me me though future proofed all electric. Best wishes

Hi John and Mandy I hope you don’t mind this book I’m about to write to you.
We get in bed every night in our motorhome and listen to what you’ve been up to.its amazing how similar we are we find our self’s saying oh we’ve been there. We have done,or do that.we use to go camping in a tent and van and car many times we pumped up the blow up bed in the back of the car and said one day we will have motorhome. We eventually got our Peugeot boxer which was the same layout as your first motorhome. We had our own business and was lucky enough to be able to go away Thursday night till Monday/Tuesday early hours then rush back and go straight to work at 3 in the morning to do our cleaning jobs..By Tuesday night we were saying we will be off again in 2days.life went so fast.but loved it so much we sold the house and business and went travelling full time that was 2007.but before we went off to Europe. in the Motorhome.we went on a 3 weeks holiday to America. Like you we hire and car and went hotel hopping from Orlando to miami.to the keys.then to Atlanta, Alabama, Mississippi,
New Orleans Louisiana Texas Arizona New Mexico Nevada las Vegas. We were thinking of leaving the hire car in Las vegas.and fly back to Florida. As that is where the flight was to go back to uk.But it would of cost 3600 dollars.we decided against that ..
We drove back stopped everywhere and went to laughlin (Little Vegas) like I said done similar things.
    amazing time.
Each state we went to we sang songs like this is the way to Amarillo great fun motels were cheap and brilliant.some not so good.
We got back to Orlando and decided we were not going back so went to every state up to New York it was the best thing ever.3 weeks turned into 3 months.we spent our First Christmas away from family swimming on the beach and our Christmas dinner was beef sandwich and a sneakers bar (marathon) while drove along..
We did come back to UK and then in the motorhome went to France Andora, Spain portugal.then back into Spain,France Italy Croatia. Bosnia Montenegro Albania Greece Turkey Bulgaria

You are very brave I could not sell my house to fund a van life. However my mortgage is paid and I’ve got £30k saved. In another few years time I will buy a van but will always keep my house.

  18. Robonthemoor on September 13, 2021 at 11:41 pm

how do you manage on 120 litres of water over 2 weeks? 8.5 litres a day! When we go wild we use 70 litres a day!! We are thinking of doing a full time van tour, but my wife had a stroke this year completly out of the blue , in hospital now the recovery! How would you cope with illness. Fantastic viewing you both put on, honest up front real life stuff, love it. We have a bit of land here in North Lincolnshire, if your in the area your very welcome to stay, it’s free. you may get totaly sick of me asking questions J.

Well balanced views of the pros and cons of full timing. Often think about the expensive view houses and whether you could possibly get bored of that same view every day. Another great video.

  22. Lee Warren on September 13, 2021 at 11:45 pm

Great video thankyou. You are both are lovely and honest. That why I follow you both and take on your opinions and knowledge cheers

Have you seen the dog waterproof onesie mabe if Cooper would put on one this might make life easier in van ?

  24. scott L on September 13, 2021 at 11:47 pm

Well said….pretty much here down south every coastal town has now banned motorhomes form 6pm to 6am so no overnight parking…getting harder and harder..and with more people choosing to go fulltime it’s going to be campsites or Europe

  25. hugh smith on September 13, 2021 at 11:47 pm

like the channel ever in dumfries clencaple small harbour village shop cafe free parking area looking on to solway free toilets then there is further down the rd down from caerlaverock castle wooded area about 8 parking bays in the woods water supply taps nature reserve area free as well

  26. Stringbean on September 13, 2021 at 11:47 pm

@2.48 Mins. ”You have the option of putting the van wherever you like”. Well if the Government gets its way, you won’t for much longer with the ‘Police, Crime, Sentencing and Courts Bill’ going through parliament right now. This Bill could criminalise thousands of people who wild camp in campervans and motorhomes.

  28. Chelsea Jade Conroy on September 13, 2021 at 11:49 pm

Hi guys, I just want to ask if your locking the van up and going off… Do you not be afraid that someone will break in and steal all your belongings or also if ur parked up somewhere someone break in and threaten u for all ur money etc… I’m thinking of going van life full time alone as I don’t feel safe anywhere and I’m sick of people having the ability to kick me out of a home or me lose my home etc… I just need somewhere to call my own because I need to feel safe.

  29. nidge on September 13, 2021 at 11:51 pm

  31. nannystate nonsense on September 13, 2021 at 11:51 pm

are the 40 down votes from the bricks and mortar prisoners tethered to the rat race hamster wheel earning peanuts to have it taken away from them as fast as they earn them? Only way the beat the (corrupt) system is to unplug from it (and ignore the losers that lack the minerals to do what they’re complaining about because they’re not brave enough).
Good on you guys, appreciate your videos.

  32. Martin Paul on September 13, 2021 at 11:51 pm

Hey guys hope your well and happy. Great, honest content in this one. Mandy I was just wondering how you deal with your anxiety? Mine goes through the roof too, feels like my heart is trying to beat through my chest sometimes.
I’d like to use my campervan more but as I’m a nervous person, I find doing it on my own is a scary thought. Do you guys know of any groups that arrange meet ups?(Not like a dating or dogging thing either!) 😆
So maybe I can make vanlifer friends too in my local area. Just wondered. Xxx

Another great video guys. I love your honesty together with some great advice. I rent a one bedroom flat and when the front door is closed all those negative things you mention happen. Fed up with paying almost a £1000 a month out to run the flat. Best I crack on with my minibus conversion 👍
