if you use wide masking tape on the boards before you cover them you wont get the lines as it hides the joins
What about laying tape over the seams of the foam board to prevent the lines?

If you tape the boards together on one side, fill the gap with filler, dry, sand, then tape that side to secure. The line should go. Nice ideas 🙂

Why did you cover the holes on the lights with the smear mirror contact paper you should have made it to were the light can shine through either or top or bottom so one could have been like a floor spot light when all the lights in the house are out should have added a open close top and bottom portion to the light then you would have the best of as above world so below.

As third generation Craftsman I have to say ok idea just for reference on how to properly install without the contact paper showing gaps from foam pad. Just make all board cut the same either 12×12 10×10 8×8 then put tabs at the 4 corners of pad then cover pad with paper. Smooth out any wrinkles. Place pad in position and use a same length wooden board to tap the tabs at corners to secure to wall and repeat.
