Woman & Her Dog Killed Sleeping In Van Life / RV Living Full Time / Nomad

This channel will teach you the good, the bad, and the reality of Minimal Living, RV Life, Camping, Boondocking, Tiny camper, camping, Van Life, Nomad / Nomadic Life, and frugal living.
After years of working 60 to 70 hours a week and never taking a vacation, Carolyn and I (Rob) decided to quit our job and begin living our dream. We bought a 1970 Starcraft pop-up camper and fixed it up, traveling the country, and only staying at free campsites. After living in it for a year, our pop-up was burned down by someone in a National Forest. We did not let that get us down. We built a homemade truck camper in 2 1/2 week so we could continue living our dream. Welcome to Little House On The Road 2.0 and welcome to the Little House On The road Family.

I pity the fool that would try some BS with me.

I live in Sedona, Arizona there have been numerous people shot while sleeping in their vehicles at rest stops and in the blm land around here, some were killed.

I agree. I would only park and sleep on a city street in an emergency!!

    You are RIGHT!!!

You are right. There is a downside to everything.

It’s important to hear all sides. Anyone who does not want to hear about the possible dangers of any lifestyle is asking for trouble. I am not a van lifer, but I enjoy watching and subscribe to a few van lifers. Thanks for providing this info.

Get familiar with each states laws that you will spend time in. Buy and learn and practice with a firearm your comfortable with. Be smart.

Why would anybody van life in a dangerous city? Granted, anything can happen anywhere, but, it can be less likely if you van life in a safer city

thanks very much for this reality check. It seems that, like with most risks and dangers in life, there are ways to protect oneself from the greater of them, which is good. I read a story recently of a woman sleeping in her car in an empty rest stop who was found murdered the next morning. Lesson to take from that I think is having multiple weapons of some sort within easy reach in one’s van, and not parking in sketchy or empty areas. But I hadn’t thought of parallel street parking as a potential hazardous place to be as well, like in the crash instances you cited. I suppose a solution would be staying in parking lots and blm land as much as possible, and not on the side of roads. Good insights and tips.

I like the way you do show or inform about all sides of van life. Rarely do van lifers depict the bad things that occur. It’s always better to see the different aspects of a lifestyle. Thank you!

Problem with running from gunfire is it’s very difficult to know where it’s coming from.

  13. Orie Cipollaro on December 21, 2021 at 1:21 pm

My buddy David Z died while on tour asleep in his bunk in an RV along with his tour manager when rear ended by a tractor trailer while on the side of the road changing a tire. You need to be aware of your surroundings at all times. Be careful out there

Sometime in the 80s a couple of young UK tourists were attacked in a rest stop sleeping in their rental car on I10 between Jacksonville and Tallahassee. I can’t remember the details but I believe one was killed and the other in hospital long term. But my house has been broken into twice, no threat to me as I was not home. I would never park in an iffy spot. I don’t feel comfortable with a gun but also not paranoid.

  15. Barbara Buford on December 21, 2021 at 1:22 pm

Thought Provoking. So sorry these occured! Rather everyone was able to stay in a driveway, ‘Off The Street’, or in designated parking areas, like Parks! ☹️

Bravo sir for telling it like it is.

  17. Eileen Camacho on December 21, 2021 at 1:23 pm

What are the dame chances of that happening. So so sad! U think I would put my dog in a van to sleep because a neighbor is having problems with u. People are just crazy. But I’m so sorry to hear these sad stories

My reply to the mean remarks would have been, "stupid much?????" I got robbed at gun ppint in Houston in our grooming shop with a 45 magnum pistol upside my head in 1985. Unless you have been there….keep stupid mean to your self please.

This is SO GREAT! I have been thinking of doing a cargo van camper but I wonder how safe it is. I am a woman, by the way, even though my name says "Doug". That’s my fake name. Anyway, I started researching how to armour a vehicle and how to make sure no one can break a window and get inside. I’m glad i’m glad I’m not the only one who thinks of these things. Great info!!

  20. Flow Rider on December 21, 2021 at 1:27 pm

  23. Sheila Lyda on December 21, 2021 at 1:31 pm

I agree that there can be dangerous situations when van dwelling. However, as one comment said, there is danger anywhere you go. My question about the guy that asked about armor is if he lives in such a dangerous place why doesn’t he move his van to a place that’s not quite so dangerous?

  24. Elle on December 21, 2021 at 1:35 pm

So how do you make your van or RV safe from intruders???

the other day I saw a car totally damaged o the side by parking on the street. @7:45 am the owner talking some pictures of his damaged car. by looking at the car damaged, I say the impacted is about 40 mph

  27. Aries London on December 21, 2021 at 1:45 pm

I’m considering buying a trailer for myself but I’ve thought of security such as alarm locks and weapon for protection. No where are we safe and we need to be proactive. For this very reason I won’t consider one of those smaller campers with the pop out tents no way it’s tent. Not a wall

  28. Linda Murray on December 21, 2021 at 1:46 pm

That’s why we’re licensed to carry concealed weapons

  29. Vegan C on December 21, 2021 at 1:47 pm

Everyone needs to be aware of the bad side of RVing. No one talks about that. Thank you for your honesty

  30. Lucky luck on December 21, 2021 at 1:48 pm

You know that there 6 vanlife murder happen in this pass couple years. Is not safe outthere. If people still want to do this vanlife lifestyle. Then yall have to stay strap with gun. The road is dangerous. Protect yourself from harm at any mean necessary.

  31. Cynthia Murphy on December 21, 2021 at 1:48 pm

Excellent video. I’ve watched many videos of women of all ages out there alone, and though I’m very independent, calm and a pretty good planner, I’d never choose to do the RV thing alone. Maybe it’s because I’m getting older, but I do believe that any woman of any age out there by herself had better be a soldier type, lol, knowing a ton of skills including having and handling a gun and a trained guard dog. I agree about the folly of sleeping on city streets.

  32. Rich Laue on December 21, 2021 at 1:50 pm

My boss wanted to drive an employee home, who lives in Camden NJ. He would not let her drive him home.
After dropping him off, he told her how to drive out of the city. She of course gets stopped by a cop who wants to know why a white lady is in this section of town.
She gets a police escort out of town with the excuse of, I want you to get out alive.

  33. Thomas Prince on December 21, 2021 at 1:52 pm

Even parking in Walmart could be dangerous. I think it’s just the luck of the draw.
Wrong place at the wrong time. I would not park on a street, so I agree.

STOP CALLING US NOMADIC PEOPLE JUST BECAUSE WE LIKE TO ENJOY OUR COUNTRYS LAND DOESNT MAKE US NOMADS!!!!!!! THAT REALLY RUDE!!!!!

The latest tragedy about the New Hampshire couple found dead in Texas. Its so important for RVers to be aware of the many hidden dangers when choosing this lifestyle….not to live in fear but not to romanticize the experience with the freedom there IS danger…be careful out there. ❤

  36. cole cole on December 21, 2021 at 1:53 pm

I agree with you Mr. talk about it even if they don’t want to hear it. Ppl need to be aware. I would love to consider this lifestyle myself but thanks for sharing

  37. NVM on December 21, 2021 at 1:54 pm

… I mean.. I hate cities anyways so I’ve got no problem with skipping cities, but I do understand that incidents can happen anywhere. My mom always taught me to be careful and be aware at all times.which is BS, people should live free w/o aholes hurting us but (and I hate this saying and how true it is) it is what it is… I guess.. I still believe people should be better and persecuted if not but that’s just my opinion

  38. Fel Ta on December 21, 2021 at 1:55 pm

I usually choose isolated areas. no Jokes. much safer.

  39. Eli B on December 21, 2021 at 1:56 pm

Been searching for the dark side of camping, RVing, nomadic this that and the other. You’re right. All anyone ever films is the sugary ‘it’s amazing’ stuff, but not things like someone trying to steal your van—WHILE YOU’RE IN IT! Read the intro and saw that someone burned down your camper?? Good God! I mean, WHY? (Not really looking for an answer because, how DO you answer for THAT kind of an action, eh?) Anyway, thanks for taking the time to cover the awful as well as the marshmallow moments.

people need to wake up! i have been a nomad for 30 yrs out of 49. bicycle, van, and motorbike. be wary of your surroundings and random people. i dont care where you go….. you are never as safe as you think you are! ignorance is not an excuse!

  44. Squid Trader on December 21, 2021 at 2:00 pm

Always have heightened awareness of your surroundings, lock your doors and have security cameras on your van. Keep pepper spray, taser and conceal carry and know the laws for conceal gun when you cross state lines.

  45. PAULA O on December 21, 2021 at 2:04 pm

Always be aware of your surroundings and who is loafing around. If they seem to be checking you out and you know your not no melania trump… you need to pack up and leave, if your boom docking.

RVing, van life, nomadic lifestyle is so appealing and great… I’m going to start it this year but you have to be vigilant and OPEN to know the ups and downs of it so you can be SAFE! If you are let mature enough to be able to take this type of USEFUL information without getting upset you shouldn’t live life on the road!
Thank you for this! So horrible what happened to those people

There are always going to be those hateful people that are going to be nasty no matter what the content is because they are just angry, unhappy people that can hide behind the anonymity of the internet…cowards.

I’m a 65 yr old widow on disability living in my van. But I’ve also got two German rotties and a Pitweiler that are personal protection trained to travel with, so I feel relatively safe. I can’t afford the campground fees they charge so I camp at lake’s and places with free camping sites and stay away from cities. I’m also in several van life and nomad groups and caravan together with other van life people when possible.
