Cupboard doors, and a container with a lid, are "too much effort" for me to put stuff away.
Opening a door, to face a stack of bins, with lids… that better be rare seasonal stuff.
I took the doors off the cupboards where I need to store stuff in containers with lids. Less aesthetic, but if it doesn’t get put away, that’d even worse.
I really wish Iโd seen this video about a year ago, but in your defence you released it about a year ago so thatโs on me ๐ But Iโm so glad I came across it and it has totally inspired me to corral my chaos. And can I just say HOW FUCKING *NICE* IT IS to receive this sort of advice from somebody who doesnโt look like theyโve arrived to perform an exorcism, or from someone who advocates colour-coding their M&Ms because they can definitely afford to pay someone to sort their M&Ms by colour (side note: dream job!), but from someone who is (possibly, implied) as being chaotic as I am. As we all are. Thank you. I like you. I REALLY like you. ๐ฅน That is all.

If magic eraser canโt get it off itโs not coming off
I’ve been "corralling" without even realizing it. Whenever there’s too much clutter in the kitchen, I gather it all up on a cutting board. Of course, that stuff usually needs to *actually* go somewhere, but HEY! It visually helps
I love the clear containers in my closet for storing all my work accessories and home improvement tools. All I have to do is glance at the containers and I can instantly find what I’m looking for, plus they stack so I can put the most-used items in the top container and the least-used items in the bottom container. It’s the best home organization product I’ve _ever_ bought. Yeah, I know it’s kind of sad to be enthusiastic about home organization, but it’s a battle I’ve been fighting for decades and now I’m winning. ๐

I originally saw either this video or another of your videos a while ago, and clicked on it but didn’t like it. I guess I thought you were too brash or honest, and I just left it. One of the reasons I instantly cringe when I see the surgical precision organizers isnโt because I think itโs lame, but because thatโs usually where I see the most โthis satisfies my OCDโ or โIโm a little OCD about____โ. "Kids frickin’ like cleaning." Probably different for girls, but for boys the attraction wears off around age seven or eight. And before that age, you end up spending extra time fixing their attempts to "help." Ask me how I know.
"There’s nothing we own that visually we’d already want in that open space." Girl. GIRL. GUUUUURL. I have so many fucking books. I can sort them in rainbow order for aesthetic purposes. BOOKS, MY DUDE, BOOOOKS. (All kidding aside, love your channel, I’m building a tiny home and setting aside all these notes for when I set it up.)

absolutely love, love, LOVE your red wine tip. years ago, it used to be really hard for me to get rid of my stuff bc of the guilt iโd feel about purging sentimental items or things that โhad a storyโ, thankfully iโve gotten better at it now, but i think itโs such a wonderful tip to think about when coming to those hard-to-get-gone stuff.
I am an older lady, a recent widow, if that tells about how old. I am grateful I found your channel. I like your tone of telling it like it is, unapologetically. I was getting fed up with other channels I found while searching tips on how to declutter and organize. I really like your suggestions. Please, don’t change ๐

There was an episode of Marie Kondo where she did elaborate more on the whole "sparks joy" bit, especially for a sentimental item, and what she asked this person was: Is this something you want to keep as part of your life going forward? I found that had helped me part ways with things I found sentimental but had no place in my home for side from being tucked away somewhere collecting dust.
